We never ordered our wedding pictures. You know, the ones we paid all kind of money for that are absolutely gorgeous and amazing and worth every penny, but never made it beyond the DVDs our photographer gave us? Yeah, those ones. And as we approach our 7 year anniversary, I felt like the timing was right to have at least one printed. You with me?
So what in the world does that little story have to do with our first big home project? Surprisingly, a lot!
We are going to tackle our basement in the coming months and we just kept going back and forth about what we wanted the space to be. It started as a workout room, but since neither one of us work out regularly at home that felt like a real waste. Then we talked about making it a guest suite, but we don’t get that much company. We finally decided upon a split game room and office with a double desk. I really LOVE our design, but since we are DIY central and the majority of our cash flow going to some big trips early next year, it’s going to take some time to complete.
Our first step is picking out colors and getting the walls painted. This step is easy and should be done in the next few weeks. Flooring will also be done relatively quickly since the reason we are doing this is because our cats ruined the carpet by peeing everywhere. Love them. Really.
Anyway, there is this half wall that, after we finalized our decorating, was just awkward. It is huge and no piece of furniture can save it because the room is long and skinny. Don’t worry, there will be before and after pictures, but until then, just know it’s in limbo.
The only thing that would look good on that wall is a giant picture. Because we want the room to be cozy and our “adult space,” we went back and forth about pictures of London (my favorite place), pictures of the beach (every room in our house is beach), and finally decided we needed some “us” in the room. So we chose our favorite wedding picture and had it blown up and mounted on canvas as large as it would go.
You guys — it’s freaking unbelievable! It came out beautiful and everything I had ever imagined. We debated over a few different pictures, and I am soooo glad we chose this one!
We used a company called Photowall. They are from Sweden and I can’t even tell you how awesome this canvas looks. The shipping was super fast, in fact I ordered two smaller prints from a retailer just two states away, and I got my canvas before I got those! Another thing we loved was their selection of art that is available. This was one of the main reasons we debated so long on which photo to get, but ultimately wanted one of our wedding pictures. I have a serious love affair with one of their prints that showcases Big Ben, and also one that makes me think of Mary Poppins and break out into a glorious rendition of “feed the birds.” Ahhh, Disney everywhere is my motto!
The *only* downfall to our amazing canvas was having to put together the framing ourselves. It came rolled in a giant box with the wood and brackets inside to do the framing. It wasn’t that difficult, but my husband has zero patience so he got fed up quickly and I had to finish it. Although kind of a pain, it wouldn’t stop me from ordering again!
I can’t wait to show you guys more pictures once we get the room painted and the floor in and you will be able to see how it really fills the awkward wall space perfectly – like it was meant for that room.
And most of all, I can stop listening to our family yell at us for not having any wedding photos, especially since we had a big Disney Wedding and finally have a house to display them in!
I look forward to sharing our (probably slow) progression on our basement and this beauty when she’s hanging under the lights on her very own wall! Stay tuned!

Meagan that is absolutely beautiful! I have to tell you, your wedding photos were the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Not gonna lie, Misty, I think her name was- scared the living shit out of me at first. But she totally knew what she was doing because those pictures were stunning! Made me jealous we hadn’t gone with a good photographer. Cannot wait to see the finished product in your basement!
