We bought nine tires this year. That’s right… nine. That is an awful lot of tires in one year, and more importantly, an awful lot of money.
The first set of tires was for our little Elantra. Our tires desperately needed replaced and after I got stuck in the middle of the road in a snowstorm that hit while I was at work, we knew it was time. I thought I got a pretty good deal at $380 for the set of four.
Fast forward two months and we put a new set of tires on our Murano. I call it our beast because that’s what the tires are. They are 17″ SUV tires and they are expensive! I was able to work out a deal of $800 for the set with an alignment because we were also having a lot of other work done to the car at the same time. I thought we were good at least for two years.
Wrong.
My [wonderful] husband came to pick me up from work on Monday with a very worried look. Right away he said “we have a problem. I hit a rock and the tire is hissing.” Sure enough big gash in the side wall of the tire. For those of you who know very little about tires, this means there is no repair possible, meaning a brand new tire.
Yep, that’s right, our nine tire of the year. Of course he had to ruin one of the SUV tires that are crazy expensive. Luckily I was able to negotiate the price of the tire down to $100 because I am such a loyal customer to the shop. Ha! Loyal… for what I spent on our two cars there this year, we should own part of the shop!
I am hoping that nine tires in one year is enough. I really don’t think I can take one more unforeseen expense in our cars for the year! Ugh!
On the bright side — the $50 I saved in coupons from my last grocery trip paid for half my tire! All the more reason why I love to save money!
